Birmingham City University Based in the Birmingham region of England, Birmingham City University is one of the most diverse places to study. Looking back at its history, it can be seen that five different colleges were merged in 1971 to form The City of Birmingham Polytechnic. These five colleges were Birmingham College of Art, Birmingham School of Music, Birmingham College of Commerce, South Birmingham Technical College and North Birmingham Technical College. In the year 1975, City of Birmingham College of Education, Bordesley College of Education and Anstey College of Physical Education became a part of the polytechnic. In the year 1988, Bournville College of Art and the Faculty of Art and Design merged to form Birmingham Institute of Art and Design.

Owing to the Further and Higher Education Act in 1992, all polytechnics were permitted to take on the title of 'university'. On June 16, 1992, the Privy Council gave its approval for the new name i.e. 'The University of Central England in Birmingham'. Three years later, Birmingham School of Jewellery was established. In the year 2007, the university not only changed its name to Birmingham City University but also made changes to its logo. In 2011, the City Centre Campus was extended as major work commenced on the Parkside Building. This campus started enrolment of students from the year 2013.

The city of Birmingham, which houses the Birmingham City University, is a prominent metropolitan borough in England and is West Midlands' informal capital. University's City Centre Campus and City South Campus comprise of different buildings targeting diverse sectors. The City Centre Campus is home to Millennium Point, Curzon Building, Joseph Priestley Building, Parkside Building, Royal Birmingham Conservatoire, and University House. On the other hand, the City South Campus comprises of Seacole Building, Bevan House and Ravensbury House, and is home to the Faculty of Health, Education and Life Sciences as well.

With nearly 24,000 students, Birmingham City University is one of the prominent universities of England. Its four faculties take care of different specializations and courses (undergraduate, postgraduate taught and research, foundation, short-term and part-time). The university is also into offering distance learning to all those who can't be physically present at its campuses. It welcomes students from across the globe and offers scholarships and bursaries to them. Moreover, the university's careers and job prospects service helps international students in finding vacation and part-time jobs. The university has a number of vacancies in different areas too, which include academic, administration, management and technical.

With a number of international students choosing Birmingham City University, its alumni network has registered significant growth over a period of time. Some of its notable alumni are Mary Rhodes (sports TV presenter), Charlie Stayt (BBC news presenter), Alex Hughes (cartoonist), Betty Jackson (fashion designer), Ravi Deepres (photographer), Frank Skinner (comedian) and Rob Pepper (artist).
